NOTE: Since September 2023 Curtains Up! is no longer partnered with Scripture Union Holidays.
Over the last twenty years we have seen an increasing number of Cast openly identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community: we have always been encouraged by Scripture Union to welcome Cast and have gladly done so. Where this is difficult is that once they reach 18, only those who fully agree with the SU lifestyle statement are meant to sign up as Crew, and the lifestyle statement specifies that marriage can only be between a man and a woman. This is especially difficult on a holiday that runs up to the age of 17.
We want to keep running a good and safe holiday where young people who love to be creative and are at least willing to explore what it means to follow God can meet together. We have reached a point where we need to step out from Scripture Union Holidays in order to welcome some of these young people onto Crew.
We know that some people reading this will not agree with the direction we are taking and if this is you, then please know that we are not seeking to cause division.
Scripture Union has been the home of Curtains Up! since 1999, but there have been many changes in that time and we are looking forward to the next chapter! If you are happy to keep journeying with us then we are very thankful to have your support

The Crew
The Curtains Up! Crew are a fantastic bunch of volunteers who pay to come to CU! each year. A lot of them grew up as Cast on the holiday and loved it so much they wanted to stay!
Matt has been on the holiday since it first started in 1999, taking on the role of Holiday Leader with Em in 2003. We are the people to talk to if you have any questions or concerns and we will do our best to help.
Em Rogerson
I’m Em. I grew up in Shakespeare’s town and now live in the city of Doctor Who, love to chat and watch MCC. My current paid job is in a school nursery where I’ve had many serious conversations and learned a lot about extremes of emotion, determination and how to do life when the world doesn’t see things the way you do. Which is pretty good preparation for another great creative week at CU!

Matt Rogerson
I’m a technician and can usually be found designing, building and fixing lighting, sound and video systems! When I’m not doing that I’m kept quite busy being a Dad and a very proud space geek!
